Nissan Leaf Won Best European Car 2011

Nissan Leaf, before the end of this year, was named the Best Car at European Car of the Year 2011. Nissan Leaf managed to beat six other finalists namely, Alfa Romeo Giulietta, C3/DS3 Citroën, Dacia Duster, Ford C-Max, Opel / Vauxhall Meriva and Volvo S60/V60. According to the selection committee for the first time a pure electric car first became a finalist and won the final contest. The value obtained from the jury for the Leaf, 257 points, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta (second) third 248 and OPE / Vauhall Meriva 244 points.

This award is given by the Car of the Year (Coty), which consists of seven European automotive media, namely L’automobile (France), Autovisie (Netherlands), Auto (Italy), Autocar (Great Britain), Autopista (Spain), Stern (Germany) and Vibilagare (Sweden).

The selection made by a jury comprised of 57 automotive journalists. Chairman of the Jury Committee of Coty Hakan Matson said, “The Leaf is an electric car that penetrates the boundary. The surplus, a conventional car can match.”

Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn, when receiving this gift expressed his pride. “This award shows the same pioneer Nissan Leaf competitive with conventional cars for safety, performance, space and control. At the same time shows the progress of the Nissan as an innovative producer, had a vision of the future creating transport equipment that we called, sustainable mobility.”

With this victory, Nissan Leaf replaces Volkswagen Polo as Europe Car of the Year 2010.
