The Popularity of Smart ForTwo is Faded
There are few bad news from Germany, Smart ForTwo manufacture country. Prestige of this Daimler’s eco-friendly cars is tend to go down because the sales are not supported.
Globally, this two-passenger car is only sold 100,000 units, fewer than 114,000 units last year. Sharp decline occurred in the United States market, where only one third of total sales, marketed in 2008 ago, which reached 25,000 units.
The dealers said that the drop in sales because of the lack of a model that is only offered during the Smart ForTwo coupe and cabriolet. From the data Daimler, Smart sales in the U.S. plunged 70 percent just to reach 4,000 units in the first seven months of this year. Last July, the number of units sold only for 560 units, down 60.5 percent from the same period in 2009. As for the global market in July 2010 period, total sales were down 20 percent and a total of 8400 units (January-July) also fell 17.4 percent to 59.1 thousand units.
Joachim Schmidt, Director of Sales and Marketing Daimler said that sales would rise up again in the third quarter of this year after the launching of the Smart ForTwo. For the U.S. market, Daimler face could boost interest in the launch of the new “Smart Expression” which offers a new sensation to the consumer with a selection of colors and custom designs.
In addition, the manufacturers try to lure the interest consumers in the U.S. by providing 250 units for the next test in October. They could feel the sensation of the new model Smart. Sales of new units had just done early next year simultaneously in 40 U.S. states.
The model which is to be marketed is the Smart ForFour in which the production had been discontinued in last 2006. This product will be re-rolled in the cooperation with Renault-Nissan. Renault teams would produce the latest Twingo as well as ForFour in 2013.
